The Mango Girls – A Tale of Alphonso Mango | Product Review

I live in UK and it is middle of winter, summer a distant memory along with the mango season. But one fine day while social media surfing I came across The Mango Girls twitter handle and saw the word alphonso yes alphonso on their page, my heart sang “Hallelujah”.

Now why does alphonso make me sing?

  • It is known as the king of mangoes in India
  • This is one variety of mango which is really sweet, plump with a creamy flesh
  • I can’t stop eating with just one as you can see here and here

So who is The Mango Girls and why did I decide to try their products

Fiona Thorne and Fleur Kentish, aka The Mango Girls, runs the Roderick C. Thorne Produce Ltd based in Kent, UK. They have a range of products like Alphonso Mango, Blood Orange, Rose Petal, Passion Fruit to name a few and source their fruits from around the world.

The alphonso mangoes are sourced from Ratnagiri a Konkan region in Maharashtra, India. The puree is made from fruit and not from concentrate without any added sugar. The 275ml bottle is perfect to use and store. The packaging is clean, crisp and the puree is thick but at the same time pours easily. The Mango Girls sorted the order so quickly and it was a pleasure to shop with them.

I served the alphonso puree with Skyr as a mid-afternoon snack. The list of dishes that can be made using the puree is endless. While I wait for summer and mango season to arrive, the alphonso puree from The Mango Girls is just the thing I needed to fill that gap. For the tropical feeling in the middle of dreary British weather, a little bit of sunshine to fill my heart.

Zaiqa The Spice Store | Product Review

Zaiqa is based in my hometown Chennai, Tamil Nadu – India and it is owned by Anisa Arif. Spices blended with natural ingredients with no preservatives or MSG “Pure and Natural”

The first thing that hit me when I opened the packet of Curry Powder is the freshness and the aroma of spices reminds me of spice powder that was just roasted and powdered. The packaging is resealable and light weight. It is quiet handy when you need it don’t have to call the search party when you are in a hurry to cook something.

The curry powder is a versatile powder like garam masala a little bit of it lifts the whole dish. I used it to make a quick side dish to be served with dal (lentils) and rice.

In a hot pan add few drops of coconut oil, followed by thinly sliced onions. Once the onions soften add few springs of curry leaves, a heap of curry powder, salt to taste cook for a minute or two. Add sliced hard-boiled egg. Serve it warm with rice and lentils (dal).
